The past few months have been about getting lost, literally getting lost in books I have been devouring books, desperate to revisit them, to go back and see the characters again, like visiting old friends.
This doesn't make for exciting reviews since I've already mentioned most of these books in the review section. But on this breakneck tour this is who I’ve seen:

All of the Cassandra Clare series (city of Bones; City of Ash; City of Glass; City of whatever it is next; Clockwork Angel);
The Becca Fitzpatrick series (Hush Hush; Crescendo; still waiting for the third to come out any day now).

Then added into this list came the Barry Lyga The Amazing Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl followed quickly by Goth Girl Rising (which are two fantastic books, incredibly cool, relevant and just awesome stuff here. Read them!!).

Then most recently, it was the Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern which is an amazingly beautiful, intricate, dangerous book. It’s like a spider web. Just incredible. More incredible that it is a debut novel.
Wow, when I look at it that way, it doesn’t look very impressive. I'm sure there's more I've read, but I'm just not remembering....
On top of that have been the stinkers that I have read that I couldn’t get into, or that were just awful. (Who would have thought you could make the life story of one of the most fascinating women in all history, BORING? I guess we all have our talents, don’t we? Sadly this was the second book I had with me on my visit to my in laws. The first, the Beach Street Knitting Club, or something like that, was lovely and delightful, - think Under the Tuscan Sun with knitting needles – but I finished it on the 7 hour drive up. Sigh.)
The movie viewing has been on the low side of late. Honestly it’s been more Shaun the Sheep which is really one of the funniest and most clever children’s cartoon (it’s actually Claymation), Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, and Jake and the Neverland Pirates.

I wake up with this song stuck in my head..... Every day. really. every day. and multiple times throughout the day it shows up.
But once fall comes around, Masterpiece Theatre starts Masterpiece Mystery up again, which means Inspector Lewis (based on the Colin Dexter novels. He did Inspector Morse. Lewis was a spin off character.)
Soon it will Be Sherlock again, which was amazing. Just go and ask Kristin Smith- Gary :) Then Wallander, and another new mystery series which looks awesome.
There has been a lot of talk lately, a lot of articles, on how to live on 40K a year, or how to live on 20K a year. (Yahoo did these. You can find them here….

And when I think about the places I have cut my expenses, being a great movie, music and book lover, I have cut out my amazon.com habit. I have nixed the Redbox. And Itunes only happens when I have a gift card from someone. And truly I’m not missing it. Why am I not missing it? Because the library has all of those things. They have more books than I know what to do with. If they don’t have what I’m looking for, they’ll do what they can to get it. If I get a stinker of a book, I’m not stuck with it. I didn’t waste the 20.00 or more to read it and be annoyed. And If I love it, I can give it back to the library and rave about it and share the love.
The library is continually expanding their dvd collection, even though there have been multiple thefts from the dvd collection. (I feel like the teacher who is saying, well one person didn’t listen to the rules so you’re going to ruin it for the rest of us… except for the rest of us, I mean the community who uses the library….) And really we should be outraged at this. Here is this fantastic establishment that has lost tons of funding through no fault of its own, and it is being used now more than ever, for research, for school, for job training… When it is such an essential element of our community, and there’s people stealing from the library. All the library does is try to serve and help. And that’s the return treatment. It’s amazing to see how in the midst of this, the librarians still continue with smiles on their faces, cheerful countenances and amazing service to their patrons. Sliding soap box back under the bed.
The library and PBS help me have such a full life when it comes to the things that people typically remove from their budgets. Quality entertainment. I can’t tell you how many times I have counted down the minutes until Inspector Lewis was on, because really, one can only handle so many episodes of Jake and the Neverland Pirates before you go batty. But when I turn off the station after Inspector Lewis or Sherlock, or any of their other programs, I feel enriched. The library is the same way. Every time I leave there,it’s like Christmas. Or my birthday. Or you know, Library Day. And those are all good days. I love Library Days.
We have such wonderful resources at our fingertips. If only we use them and take care of them.
